Foods high in beta-carotene

Beta carotene gives some foods an orange colour, so it can be quite easy to spot whole foods such as fruits high in beta carotene. This is certainly the case for our Organic Sea Buckthorn Berries, which naturally have a glorious yellow-orange colour.

Many people like to make sure they’re getting enough beta carotene in their diet. Surprisingly, beta carotene does not count as a vitamin itself (rather, it’s usually called a nutrient), however our bodies convert it into vitamin A.

While beta carotene supplements are widely available, you don’t need to turn to synthetic capsules to get enough beta carotene in your diet. Instead, focus on choosing lots of brightly coloured fruit and veg, which will supply you with plenty.

Natural foods with beta-carotene

Natural foods which contain beta carotene include sea buckthorn berries, carrots, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, red peppers, mango and apricots. Our range of sea buckthorn berry products is an easy and convenient way to add a boost of beta-carotene to your diet. If beta carotene is your main interest, we recommend starting with our Organic Sea Buckthorn Juice and Organic Sea Buckthorn Powder. More on sea buckthorn benefits >>

Beta-carotene for skin

Scientists and beauty experts are interested in beta carotene for its effects on skin health.

As an antioxidant, beta carotene can help protect your cells from damage caused by free radicals. If left unchecked, this could lead to cell damage and ageing.

As our bodies convert beta carotene to vitamin A, it may also help with healthy vision, immune function, and the growth of bone and tissue.

There’s also some evidence that eating lots of beta-carotene may have a protective effect against UV rays. However, it’s important to say that its effects are much lower than a topical sunscreen. Please continue to wear an eco-friendly sunscreen when you’re out and about. Not only will it protect you from the sun, it can also help slow skin ageing.
