Foods high in magnesium

Magnesium is an important dietary mineral. You need to source it from your diet. It is present in many whole foods such as legumes, nuts and leafy greens.

We need magnesium for lots of functions in the body. Among other things, it helps with healthy bones, muscle and nerve function and regulating our blood sugar levels.

Unfortunately, some people struggle to get enough magnesium, including those who suffer with diabetes or gastrointestinal disorders.

Try our snacks with magnesium

Luckily, many of our snacks contain magnesium.

Our tigernut granolas are a natural source of this mineral. Meanwhile, our crackers contain activated sunflower seeds and linseeds and are high in magnesium.

Magnesium for sleep

In recent years, many people have started to take magnesium supplements to help them sleep.

It is true that magnesium deficiency can disrupt sleep. Scientific studies show that low magnesium levels are linked with poor sleep quality and insomnia.

However, it is less clear whether magnesium supplements help improve your sleep.

If you’re concerned about your sleep, we recommend making sure you’re getting enough magnesium through your diet. Making a conscious effort to include magnesium-rich foods will help eliminate magnesium deficiency as a possibility.

If you don’t see any improvements in your sleep, speak to your doctor. They will be able to advise on the root cause of your poor sleep and help you get back to a good night’s rest.

If you suspect that stress is behind your poor sleep, you may also like to try one of our Ayurvedic adaptogens. Ashwagandha in particular is famed for its ability to help you destress and drift off to sleep. It has been used in traditional medicine for thousands of years.
