About our amla powder

Amla, also known as Indian Gooseberry, is revered in the Ayurvedic tradition thanks to its powerful health properties. Modern science has revealed that amla has the highest ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) rating among fruits and vegetables, indicating its outstanding ability to fight free radicals and protect the body from oxidative stress. It also encourages hair growth and supports your skin health.

It is particularly high in vitamin C, containing more of it per 100g than lemons, oranges and spinach! We need vitamin C to support a healthy immune system and also to produce collagen, the protein which keeps our skin plump and bouncy.

As a natural adaptogen, amla can help you to deal with the stresses and strains of daily life. Studies have shown that amla can curb potentially damaging excess inflammation in the body, too.

How to take amla

Our Organic Amla Powder has a naturally bitter flavour, so we recommend mixing it into smoothies, soups and stews.

You could also try the traditional Ayruvedic way of taking amla, which is by mixing into warm milk or water with a little honey. This helps to draw out all the powerful compounds within amla so your body can better absorb them.

Adaptogens

Adaptogens are a special family of plants which have a modulatory effect on the body. This means they help return you to a state of relaxed wellbeing, whatever your situation. Feeling stressed out? They’ll help you feel calmer. Feeling sluggish? They’ll help energise you until you feel back to your best.

Supply chain

Sustainably sourced.

  1. Our amla is grown sustainably by small farmers in the Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh regions of India and is harvested throughout the year. Amla grows on branching trees, between 8 and 8 metres tall.
  2. Our amla is harvested in February, when the fruits are green in colour and have the highest possible ascorbic acid (vitamin C) content.
  3. The fruits are sun-dried on the farm, powdered and packed into environmentally-friendly amber glass jars.
  4. We ship our amla to you, to enjoy at home.
