It’s been a tough old couple of years, so treat your parents to a Christmas present that will help them relax and take care of themselves. Presenting: our curated pick of Christmas gifts for mum and dad with a health and wellness focus.

Never a better time for wellness

We’ll be honest; when New Year’s Eve 2020 rolled around, and the clock finally ticked over into a brand new year, we felt a huge sigh of relief. 2020 was, let’s face it, one of the toughest years on record.

We’ve survived a whole extra year since then, and it’s definitely true that 2021 brought with it a greater sense of optimism. However, it has still been difficult, with lots of us dealing with the aftermath of the pandemic.

That’s why it has never been a better time to focus on the things that make us feel good. And, with Christmas just around the corner, we’ve been collecting ideas for the best health and wellness gifts you can give to your loved ones.

Christmas gifts for mum and dad

Although they’re probably the people we know best in the world, it can sometimes be bafflingly difficult to pick a gift for our parents.

First of all, it can seem as though they’ve developed their hobbies and interests over time, and have probably already accumulated any paraphernalia they need. What else can we add?

Or, perhaps it seems as though we’ve already run through the usual list of ‘parent present ideas’; a nice new sweater for Dad, some earrings for Mum...

However, choosing a wellness-related gift encourages the recipient to focus on the ‘here and now’. Enjoying a bit more time for self-care is something that everybody can benefit from, and makes a present which is both thoughtful and useful.

So, without further ado, here are our favourite wellness-related Christmas gifts for mum and dad.

1. A light therapy lamp

Christmas is one of our favourite times of year. However, the grey months of January and February which follow can be one of the most difficult, especially if you find your moods are affected by the weather.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a form of depression which appears during the cold, dark winter months. Light therapy lamps (sometimes also called SAD lamps) are a method of treatment which works by mimicking the lighter conditions of the summer months.

However, there are also versions available which have multiple uses, including gently waking you up with gradually increasing light, or playing relaxing colours and sounds.

We love this idea as it’s one both Mum and Dad can use. Whether it’s for its therapy potential or merely to help brighten up their home in the winter, a light therapy lamp is a great investment which can be used for many years to come.

We like the look of this Lumie model, which is stylish as well as functional.

2. A photo collage of you and your family

The pandemic has kept us apart from our loved ones over the last couple of years. A beautiful photo collage of you and your family will boost Mum and Dad’s spirits and provide them with a lovely decoration for their home.

Firstly, choose a gorgeous frame which you can customise with your favourite prints.

We love this frame set from Shared Earth which is made from sustainably sourced wood. It’s also FSC certified, which means that the Forest Stewardship Council has made sure its production doesn’t damage the environment.

Next, use an online printing service such as Pixum to get your favourite snaps printed and sent to you via post. Pixum uses FSC certified materials too, and the company is carbon-neutral.

Put the two together and you have a brilliant, personal gift which your parents will love, and which uses thoughtful and sustainable materials.

Include pics of the kids, family gatherings, birthday parties - whatever you like. But don’t be shy to include pictures of yourself. After all, yours is the face your parents most want to see!

3. Erbology Ayurvedic Adaptogens Bundle

A great way to encourage more self-care into your parents’ routines is to introduce them to the teachings of Ayurveda.

This ancient Indian medical system focuses on treating the body and mind as a whole. What’s more, it is concerned with taking preventative actions to keep the body healthy and happy before any signs of illness emerge.

As such, Ayurvedic teachings can be a great way to get your parents thinking about their wellbeing as part of their normal daily routine.

Our Ayurvedic Adaptogens Gift Set is a great way to introduce Mum and Dad to the basics of Ayurveda in an accessible and easy to use way.

As adaptogens, our Organic Ashwagandha, Turmeric and Amla powders all have a modulatory effect on the body. This means that they can help us cope with physical and mental stress.

In addition to this, amla and turmeric are famed for their free-radical-fighting properties. In fact, amla has one of the highest antioxidant capacities of any fruit!(1)

Meanwhile, ashwagandha is revered in Ayurveda as a natural sleep aid and stress-buster.

They can be easily mixed into a little warm water or milk and enjoyed in the morning or evening as desired. Alternatively, direct them to our adaptogen recipes for more delicious drinks.
