Healthy oils for a healthy heart

Heart disease is a major cause of death worldwide and overall, men are more likely than women to develop heart disease. Lowering blood pressure and keeping your cholesterol and triglyceride levels in check are two powerful ways to reduce your risk of heart disease.

Olive oil contains heart friendly monounsaturated fats and polyphenols which have been linked to reduced cholesterol levels and decreased risk of heart disease.

The role of diet in male health

Prostate disease is a significant health risk for men as they enter into mid-life. Around 25% of men aged 55 years and over have a prostate condition which increases to 50% by the age of 70.

While there are no specific foods that target the prostate, the research suggests focusing on an overall healthy eating pattern instead.

It is recommended to eat at least five servings of different coloured fruits and vegetables per day, cut down on salt, eat whole grain breads and cereals instead of their white counterparts, limit consumption of red and processed meats and opt for healthier sources of protein instead, and finally choose healthy fats such as olive oil and nuts and limit saturated fat intake.
