There are few foods more versatile than yoghourt - it is one of our few steadfast refrigerator essentials. It's not hard at all to variate your fruit-and-yoghourt bowls. However, making a parfait is taking it to the next level, literally and figuratively! Layer in-season fresh fruits with yoghourt and add the crunch of nuts. Finish off with smooth, delicate poppy seed oil and the nectar of maple syrup, which blend into a wonderful ambrosia.
We have to say that the distinctively rich combination of poppy seed oil and maple syrup is probably our favourite thing about this recipe. You could get playful and variate the other ingredients. Try in-season fruits and berries, or you could even add another layer to the parfait with an Erbology Tigernut Granola. This would add fibre and bulk to the parfait.
How about adding dried fruit for further texture? Be sure to pick an organic variation without added sugar or preservatives. Stay away from anything that has been fried! We are already daydreaming about trying dried apricot in our next parfait. Prunes could be a striking addition as well....
Peaches, pears, jujubes, and lychees are unusual, intriguing and healthy dried fruit variations that you could try adding into your diet if you have not already. It could also be nice to rhyme fresh with dried figs in your parfait. We like that, in French, another synonym for parfait, or perfect, is the word 'original'. Sometimes we feel that the expectation of perfection prevents us from experimentation, which is often needed for originality. With that prompting us forward, we are definitely gonna try healthily dried jujubes!
The difference between eating a yogurt bowl and a parfait is subtle, but distinct. After all, it's not just the seductive appeal to the eye provided by tiers of colours and textures, it's the tantalisation that they offer up to your taste buds. As you encounter each ingredient separately and go on to the next, the individual flavours are properly showcased before merging into a perfect - or parfait - marriage. See what we did here?!
We fancy that this particular parfait has autumnal flavours, but it's lovely in any season. For example, it would be perfect eaten after a fresh salad enjoyed alfresco or as a mid-afternoon pick me up. You could of course make it your breakfast. Adding it to a larger brunch menu would also be delectable. You could even pair it with our gluten-free nut bread with hemp and chia, and accompany with pomegranate, orange and aloe vera cocktails.
Don't forget a bouquet of fresh flowers for your table! To up your parfait yet another notch, try making your own coconut yogurt. Certainly, it's not hard to do, and it's wonderful to know that there are absolutely no nasties lurking anywhere! Learn more about the poppy seed benefits
