Can I eat poppy leaves?

3 years agoUpdated

The young leaves of the poppy plant are good to eat raw. Be sure to harvest the leaves from your poppy plants before the flower pods form. You can use the leaves like any other greens – they’re lovely in salads. Unlike with some other leaves, there is no astringent flavour and we really enjoy them.

If you harvest them after the flower pods form though, morphine will have accumulated in the leaves. We really do not recommend that!
